Style Icon: Rihanna

Posted by Ruby at 5:00 AM

If I had to pick one word to describe singer/actress Rihanna I would definitely have to say fearless. Rihanna has been luring her fans into new fashion trends for years now. However, she has finally stepped out of the realm of fashion and into the world of edginess. Rih Rih has just recently added her 18th tattoo on her chest, which depicts the goddess Isis. She explained that the tattoo is a tribute to her late grandmother, and she chose Isis because, “ she is the complete woman and the model for future generations.”  The tattoo pictured below looks like wings being spread across her chest, you have to look a little bit closer to see that the image is of Isis.

                                   (Hollywood Reporter)

While this particular tattoo may be Rihanna’s largest and wildest tattoo, she is no stranger to ink. Rih Rih has adorned herself with various works of art and phrases throughout her career. The most controversial of her past tattoos being the gun she had placed on her side after her incident with former boyfriend, Chris Brown.  And, along with the controversial tattoos she has many trendsetting ones as well. For example, many young girls throughout the world ran out and got “LOVE” tattooed on their finger like Rihanna. She has even managed to inspire her fellow celebrities with her ink choices, such as Lindsay Lohan who copied her “Ssshhh” tattoo on her finger.

It’s too soon to say if Rihanna has set a trend with her new Isis tattoo. Many, people out there in blogger world are hoping this trend doesn’t pick up. It’s one thing to copy a small tattoo on your finger, but copying this very large tattoo would be a whole different, disturbing story.  One, would hope that the Rihanna Navy finds another way to pay homage to their leader without permanently scarring themselves with a tattoo that may not mean anything to them personally.  However, it is safe to say that whether her followers imitate this tattoo or not, Rihanna is definitely a style icon to be reckoned with.
